AI consulting for small businesses
Not how to adopt AI. Which two or three things, running by themselves, would give you back a day a week.
You are not too small for this. You are too busy for most of it.
AI consulting for small businesses has a credibility problem, and it is deserved. The advice is usually written for a company with a technology budget and a person whose job it is to care. You have neither, and your version of the problem is different.
The question is not "how do we adopt AI." It is "which two or three things, if they ran by themselves, would give me back a day a week and stop the leads leaking." That is a much smaller question and it has an answer.
Where it actually pays
The first five minutes
Answering a new enquiry fast, every time, including evenings and weekends. Usually the highest paying change available to a service business.
The quotes you never chased
Follow up that happens whether or not anybody remembered. You already paid for those leads.
The admin hour
Scheduling, reminders, review requests, reporting. Not glamorous, and it is where the week goes.
Where it does not
Being straight about this is the point. AI will not fix a pricing problem, a staffing problem or an offer nobody wants. It will make a broken process run faster, which usually makes things worse rather than better. If that is what we find in week one, we will tell you, and that conversation is cheaper than the build you were about to buy.
A real example
Keep It Clean, Athens, Alabama
A carpet and tile cleaning company with no reliable way to fill next week's schedule. We built the campaign, the tracking and the follow-up, then let the system run it.
A carpet and tile cleaner, not a tech company. The work was ordinary: get the right ad in front of the right people, answer fast, follow up properly, track what happened.
That is what this looks like in a small service business. Not a robot. A phone that rings more often, for less money.
Questions
- Is my business too small for AI consulting?
- Almost certainly not. The work that pays in a small service business is speed to lead, follow up and admin, and those are cheaper to build than most owners expect. What matters is whether you have enough lead flow for the improvement to show up in the numbers.
- Will AI replace my staff?
- That is rarely the right first move. The highest paying automations take over the work nobody wants and everyone does badly when busy, like chasing quotes and answering at nine at night.
- What if AI is not the answer for my business?
- Then we say so in week one, and that is a cheaper conversation than the build you were about to buy. AI will not fix a pricing problem, a staffing problem or an offer nobody wants.
